Obituary for Gordon N. Gulbrandsen

Ludlow, Gordon N. Gulbrandsen, 96, of Edison St., died Saturday, December 30, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born in Staten Island, NY, November 5, 1921, he was the son of Norwegian born parents, Oscar and Maren (Norberg) Gulbrandsen. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII and was a 21 year veteran, retiring as MSGT. While in the service, the family lived in many US cities, settling in Ludlow in 1961. He then worked as a supervisor/dispatcher for Bay State Gas in Ludlow for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Brigham Lodge of Masons, Worthy Patron of James W. Hannum Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Arab Patrol of Shriner’s. A skilled wood worker, he crafted many pieces of furniture and traveled with his wood carved birds to many artisan fairs. An avid sports fan, he loved the Red Sox, Patriots, Mets and Brooklyn Dodgers. He and his wife loved to travel and square dance. He and his wife Doris (Johnsen) Gulbrandsen would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary Jan. 1, 2018. Besides his devoted wife, he will be deeply missed by his children, Eric and his girlfriend Linnea Erhart of Ludlow, and Karen and her significant other, Gary Froehlich of Auburn, as well as his 4 precious grandchildren Karina DaSilva, Matthew Gulbrandsen, Trevor Grimm and Maren Farrell and 3 great grandchildren. Additionally, his niece Marlene Santangelo of NJ, and son in law Paul Robinson of Palmer will miss him. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 3 older sisters and his daughter April Robinson (May 2017). Calling hours will be Saturday, Jan. 6 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St., (Rte 20) followed by a service with military honors at 12:00 p.m. For those wishing to honor his memory, please make donations to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Carew St, Springfield.
