Chicopee, Ernest R. Gagnon Sr, 83, died on Tuesday, October 10. He was born in Holyoke on August 28, 1934 and was the son of Romeo and Helen (Jancevic) Gagnon. He was raised in Holyoke but has called Chicopee his home since 1964. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Church. Ernie's working career started as a mechanic then salesman at Leader Chevrolet, Ed Nackey Chevrolet and Penn Lincoln Mercury. He finished his career employed as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney before retiring. In his leisure he enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching football and baseball, reading, and listening to music.

His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Rita (Borgatti) in 2015. He will be forever missed by his children, Ernest Jr and his wife Candace of Santa Rosa, Fl, Barbara Stanfield and her husband Keith of Enfield, CT, Victor and his wife Fanny of Ft. Meyers, FL, David of Wales, MA, MA and Deborah Kvarnstrom and her husband Eric of Southwick along with 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Peter and his wife Ada of Allen, TX and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son Stephen in 2005.

A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, family and friends may gather at the funeral home at 8:45 a.m.. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St.
