Obituary

Samuel M. Lewis, 88, passed away on March 15, 2017 at Baystate Medical Center. Born November 23, 1928 in Bangor, ME, he was the son of Guy and Hazel M. (Smith) Lewis. Samuel has lived in the Three Rivers section of Palmer since 1952.

He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a self-employed land surveyor and enjoyed camping, reading, sketching and writing about things that he did when he was younger. He also did a lot of wood carving and liked to play his guitar and write songs; all of which he did very well.


He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Patricia Smith and her husband Byron of Three Rivers, MA, his sister, Chloe Libby and her husband Gerald of Carmel, ME, grandchildren, Melissa Mercier of Belchertown, Samuel Smith and his wife Melisa of Springfield, along with great grandchildren, Derek Nadeau, Kyra Mercier and Nadalie Mercier. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Irene (Santos) along with his sister Cecil and brother Galen.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 22nd from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm with a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Burial and military honors will take place in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or The Wounded Warrior Projects at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
