Wethersfield, CT-Shirley L. Noel died Thursday, September 7, 2017. She was born in 1922 in South Hadley, Massachusetts, daughter of Corinne (Boulais) Noel and Leon Noel. She leaves her sister, Lee Lashway and her husband, Bill, of Leeds, Massachusetts, as well as her brother-in-law Edward Werenski of South Hadley. She was predeceased by her sister Carol Werenski of South Hadley. She also leaves several beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Shirley graduated from South Hadley High School in 1939 and graduated New York Institute of Photography in 1942. Shirley proudly served in WWII as a Navy WAVE from 1943 to 1945. She served as an aviation metalsmith stationed in Pensacola, Florida and was later assigned to the Squadron Tower to train the RAF. Upon her discharge from the Navy she worked for Loring Laboratories as a photographic retoucher.
She lived in Coventry and Hartford, eventually making her long term home in Wethersfield, Connecticut where she lived happily with her many cherished dogs. Upon her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, her many friends, and traveling the world.
Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home has care of arrangements. Calling hours will be 10:30 to 11:30 A.M, Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the funeral home, followed by a church service at St. Patrick’s Church of South Hadley at 12 p.m., with a Christian/Military burial at St. Rose Cemetery.
