South Hadley - Walter J. Reid , 83, died on March 15, 2017 in Holyoke. Born April 30, 1933 in Fall River, he was the son of Herbert and Mary (Broderick) Reid and has lived in S. Hadley since 1973. Walter served his country during the Korean War and served the US Air Force as a recruiter for 24 years, retiring in 1974. He then worked for the US Postal Service in Springfield for many years. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby and a member of the National DAV. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 62 years, Dolores (Lyons) Reid, along with his 5 children, Edward Reid of Fitchburg, Donna Czmut (Edward) of Memphis, TN, Mary Rogers (Kevin) of Granby, Elizabeth Cogavin (Paul) of Sturbridge, and Joanne Hay (John) of South Hadley. Additionally, 10 grandchildren, Jeremiah Reid, Michael and Jennifer Rogers, David, Kathleen and Thomas Czmut, Nicholle Cogavin, and Samantha, Kala and Jake Reid, 4 great grandchildren and 3 sisters, Mabel Wood of Tiverton, RI, Mildred Boyd of Fall River, Elinor Costa of Dartmouth, also survive him. Walter was preceded in death by his children, Rosemary Reid and Walter "Joey" Reid. A Funeral Mass will be Monday, March 20th at 10:00 a.m at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church followed by burial with military honors at 2:30 p.m at Bourne National Cemetery.
