Andrea Weisberg

Obituary of Andrea Weisberg

Andrea Weisberg passed away on April 28th, 2024 at 84 years old. She was surrounded by her loving family–including her children, grandchildren, and her dear friend of nearly 70 years, Gail. She was born on January 14, 1940 in Flushing, Queens to Bertha and David Solomon. Andrea was a devoted educator. After earning her undergraduate degree at Boston University and two masters degrees at Long Island University, she spent 20 years as a teacher for students with learning disabilities at Hicksville Public Schools on Long Island. She later became the Director of Special Education at Northport Public Schools and the Principal of the Fifth Avenue Elementary School. Andrea's life was greatly enriched by the wisdom and kindness of her students. After raising her children on Long Island, Andrea retired to Shaftsbury, Vermont with her husband Stuart (“Stu”). Andrea and Stu’s home became a haven for generations of family to gather. We cherish our memories of her making homemade jam from her backyard raspberry patch, hosting “kids vacations” for her grandchildren, and driving her bright red Mini Cooper convertible through the mountains of Vermont. Andrea found fulfillment during retirement by staying engaged with new endeavors and communities. She was elected as the Vermont State President of American Association of University Women (AAUW) and served on the boards for the Bennington Center for Restorative Justice, the Robert Frost Storehouse Museum, and Southern Vermont College. After 58 years of marriage, Stu passed away in 2018. In 2019, Andrea moved to Loomis Village in South Hadley, MA to be near her daughter, Stacy, and son-in-law, Peter. Andrea found a renewed sense of joy when she was welcomed by a community of loving new friends. Her face would light up with delight when she spoke of her daily lunches and dinners, bridge games, knitting group, and wearing her granddaughter’s old Halloween costumes to the Loomis Halloween parties. Andrea is survived by her sister, Sydele ("Cookie") Hoffman; her children Stacy Duggan (and husband Peter), Lori Goldberg (and husband Shahar), and Mark Weisberg (and wife Tiffany); her grandchildren, Sarah and Jake Duggan, Paz, Asaf, and Guy Goldberg, and Brian (and wife Lan) and Rachel (and husband Ben) Weisberg; and many loyal, life-long friends.
